Google Inc. has extended a multi-year deal with RealNetworks Inc. to promote Google software across Real's entertainment and multimedia products, the companies said on Wednesday.

RealNetworks and Google, together with Web browser maker Mozilla Corp., said they had agreed to distribute the Mozilla Firefox browser together with the Google Toolbar along with Real's RealPlayer audio and video playback software.

No financial terms were disclosed.

Reuters was also quick to point out that this move is a deliberate strategy to head off Microsoft prior to the release of Vista, scheduled for late 2006/early 2007.

Print may not have worked for Google, but Google's wagering that satellite radio will.

Today, Google announced a deal with XM Satellite Radio, allowing advertisers to place ads on many XM channels. Financial details weren't disclosed, but we do know that the deal excludes music channels and premium channels, like Oprah's cjannel and MLB.

Google's always testing new media, and recently launched contextual video ads and mobile ads (Japan only). A new user interface for advertisers is expected next quarter.

While Yahoo, which runs the world’s most popular Internet site, has a booming business selling graphical advertising, it has been struggling to rebuild its search service.

Google, which continues to increase its share of both users and advertising revenue, produces 40 percent more revenue from each search than Yahoo does, industry experts say, thanks to software that is better at selecting relevant text advertisements to place on a page of search results...
